Biography
Nejc Smole is the Challenge Owner for the Sustainable Finance Challenge at Tomorrow University and Director of the European Banking Institute Policy Centre. With over 15 years of experience across central banking, banking supervision, and development banking, he brings a system-level perspective on how financial institutions can support sustainability transitions while safeguarding financial stability.
Nejc has worked within the Eurosystem on financial stability and banking supervision and has contributed to the design of supervisory approaches for multilateral development institutions. His expertise includes the supervision of climate and environmental risks within the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) and contributions to global banking policy on climate-related financial risks through international task forces. Alongside his policy and leadership roles, he lectures on sustainable finance and climate risk at Tomorrow University, equipping learners with the tools to understand how financial regulation, policy, and instruments such as green bonds can deliver measurable sustainability outcomes alongside strong financial performance.
