30-Day No-Plastic Challenge for the Environment

Did you know we consume about 5 grams of microplastics per week, equivalent to a whole credit card?

On average, one person produces 38 kg of plastic waste annually, and over 3 kg of plastic per month! This is alarming.

At Tomorrow University, sustainability is a core value that underpins all our programs and courses. We aim to create sustainable business models, supply chains, products, and learning environments. We're all committed to this. But we can also make a difference on a personal level by changing our consumption habits and making conscious decisions every day.

The Plastikalternative initiative by our Master in Science learner and Co-Founder of Plastikalternative Erkaiym and her team have launched a 30-Day No-Plastic challenge that guides everyday life to make a sustainable lifestyle as effortless as possible. The goal is to encourage environmental protection and ensure a secure future for the next generations. Through transparency and education, they combat greenwashing, enabling people to make informed decisions. In doing so, they bridge the gap between environmentally conscious consumers and sustainable businesses.

The Challenge

The Plastic-Free Challenge starts on March 1st, 2024, and runs until March 30th, 2024. The goal is to educate and motivate individuals to stay committed for 30 days while providing daily alternatives to everyday plastic products, such as disposable coffee cups.

Did you know that 320,000 disposable cups end up in the trash every hour in Germany alone?

Most of us have grabbed a quick coffee on the way to work or strolled through the park with a cup in hand. But when you hear the numbers, it becomes clear that it matters! Every year, 3 billion disposable cups pile up in Germany alone despite the availability of alternatives. Furthermore, retailers are now obligated to provide reusable options. This means sellers must offer their own reusable alternatives or fill customers' containers.

On the first day of the Plastic-Free Challenge, you'll learn more about sustainable reusable cups and alternative solutions that will help you avoid disposable cups in the future. Additionally, there's a daily opportunity to participate in a prize draw where one of the featured plastic-free alternatives can be won.
