Does the MA in Applied Psychology let you become a Psychological Psychotherapist (Approbation)?
No. Our MA in Applied Psychology is not a clinical degree, so it does not lead to Approbation. As the program pages state: "This degree does not qualify graduates to use the protected professional title 'Psychological Psychotherapist' ('Psychologische/r Psychotherapeut/in') under §1 of the German Psychotherapists Act (PsychThG)." It prepares you for applied, organizational, and coaching roles instead.
Does the MA in Applied Psychology lead to Approbation?
No, and we want to be completely clear about it. The protected title "Psychological Psychotherapist" and the license to practice (Approbation) are reserved by German law for graduates of specific clinical pathways, which this program is not. The exact wording on our MA program pages reads:
"This degree does not qualify graduates to use the protected professional title 'Psychological Psychotherapist' ('Psychologische/r Psychotherapeut/in') under §1 of the German Psychotherapists Act (PsychThG). It also does not entitle graduates to practice psychotherapy or to commence psychotherapeutic professional training or work in accordance with §§11 and 12(1) of the StakV."
In plain terms: this MA does not confer the protected title, does not entitle you to practice psychotherapy, and does not let you begin psychotherapeutic training. If becoming a licensed psychotherapist is your goal, the next section points you to the right route.
How do you actually become a psychotherapist in Germany?
This is general public information about the regulated route under the German Psychotherapists Act (PsychThG), not a description of any Tomorrow University program. As a high-level overview, the licensing path today usually runs through a specifically structured, state-approved university pathway: a Bachelor's in psychology that meets the law's clinical content requirements, followed by a Master's in psychotherapy that does the same, after which graduates sit a state examination to earn Approbation (the license to practice). Approbation-track programs are tightly regulated, and the exact requirements depend on current legislation and the federal state. If this is your goal, look specifically for a Bachelor's and Master's that are advertised as Approbation-conforming ("approbationskonform").
What does the MA in Applied Psychology qualify you for instead?
Plenty, just in a different direction. Our MA in Applied Psychology is built for impact in organizations, teams, and personal development rather than clinical treatment. You can specialize across five tracks: People Development and Coaching; Self Leadership and Longevity; Organizational Psychology and New Work; Human-Centered AI and Tech; and Systemic Transformation and Change. It is designed for roles such as people and culture lead, organizational development consultant, coach, talent or learning specialist, and change manager. The program is accredited through the German Accreditation Council via ACQUIN and awarded by Tomorrow University, and it runs 100% online while you keep working. If applied psychology is what excites you, this is a strong, honest fit.
