Prerequisites

Upon successfully completing the challenge, you'll receive a digital certificate that can be shared with your personal and professional networks.

What You'll Learn

The challenge is made up of seven milestones. Each of these steps has its own outcome and brings you closer to designing the right thing. By the end of the challenge, you´ll have conducted your own design research process and developed a well-designed problem definition based on the insights about your users. These creative competencies will help you to move to the next phase of your design project.

1
Identify how the methods of linear algebra interact with data
In this milestone, you will visually organize your data thanks to methods such as vectors, matrix, tensor and linear map. Each of these methods will be presented so that you can understand when and why using them.
2
Perform basic activation functions to interact with non-linear data
In this milestone, you’ll go further with data that cannot be visually separated with previous linear methods. You will then discover different mathematical non-linearity functions that provide high-quality results.
3
Identify how to improve the parameters of a neural network
In this milestone, your goal is to improve the learning of an existing neural network by improving their parameters. For each of the learning steps, you will use methods such as derivatives, and the gradient to minimize the loss and therefore maximize their learning.
4
Control the quality of your neural network training through evaluation metrics
Training a neural network doesn’t mean that it trains in a useful way. Therefore, you would like to take a look at some evaluation tools and interpret their results.
5
Capstone Project: Use math methods to control a real dataset
In this capstone project, you’ll have the opportunity to re-use all the math foundations you learnt to optimize and control an existing dataset.

What You'll Gain

Successful and sustainable products are not only well designed, but also meet specific needs of the users. With the help of user research methods (such as exploratory interviews or participatory observations) you will gain insights into people's needs by observing user behavior, asking the right questions, and acquiring user empathy.

“The design of any meaningful solution starts with a well-understood problem. But evolution wired our brains to quickly react to challenges, jump to conclusions, and act based on often implicit assumptions. That’s why we in the discovery phase focus on methodically developing our understanding of the problem and its causes in order to identify the most promising paths toward a valuable solution.”
